Blake Lively is an extremely gifted and dedicated woman in the acting industry.
Recently, she has been facing a considerable amount of criticism, which began with her participation in promoting her latest film, “It Ends With Us.”
The novel by Colleen Hoover addresses the sensitive topic of domestic violence and this is where the seemingly issue began.
Blake’s Insensitive Movie Marketing
As previously stated, Blake’s new movie tackles the sensitive issue of domestic violence.
Making people aware of this still-important and widely-spread problem is always a good thing to do. Unfortunately, Blake did not use that chance.
What initially sparked criticism towards Blake was her apparent lack of sensitivity when marketing the movie’s release.
During interviews, she constantly preferred to talk about her other interests, such as jewellery and side projects, rather than delve into the sensitive topic addressed in the movie. It seems that she lacks concern for the movie’s message, as indicated by both fans and reviewers.
Although this movie had the potential to be a powerful platform for raising awareness about a sensitive global issue, she made the decision not to pursue it. It’s disappointing and a significant missed chance, to be frank…
Interview Backlashes ‘It Ends With Us’
Blake has faced criticism for adopting a light-hearted approach during interviews instead of delving into the deeper themes of the movie.
In my humble opinion, this doesn’t seem like a major issue since she likely just felt grateful for the opportunity to get interviewed. It is somewhat worrisome, though, that she was involved in a movie where she didn’t appear to fully grasp the message.
Kjersti Flaa Wanted to Quit Her Job Because Of Blake
Another interview from 2016 resurfaced, which also did not work out well for Blake.
Kjersti Flaa, a journalist from Norway, conducted the interview. When Kjersti complimented Blake on her adorable baby bump, Lively didn’t seem to take it well.
Blake responded with a sarcastic comment, saying “Congrats on your little bump.”
This is where the issue began! If Flaa had been genuinely pregnant, this would have been a nice comment, but….she wasn’t!
Kjersti’s experience of infertility at the time made the hurtful comment worse.
Lively ignored Kjersti several times throughout the interview, making her feel humiliated and excluded.

How You Can Avoid Making The Same Mistakes
Showing Empathy
Even if it isn’t always simple, empathy is a quality that we should all strive to have.
It’s important to remember that in certain situations, it’s natural to feel upset or angry. However, it’s worth taking a moment to reflect on the potential consequences before reacting hastily, as Blake did.
It’s important to remember that we can never truly understand what someone else is going through.
Blake could not have known about Kjersti’s infertility, but if she had stopped to think about whether her snarky answer could have triggered something or was even necessary at this particular moment (which it wasn’t), then this would never have happened.
Accountability
If you have made a mistake, own up to it and accept responsibility.
We all mess up and act out every once in a while.
Everybody experiences emotions, and maintaining emotional control in all life situations is impossible.
It’s alright. You are human.
Still, if you did something wrong, please own up to it.
Blake could have shown more understanding and offered an apology, while also explaining why Kjersti’s comment upset her, to potentially turn the interview into a heartwarming moment, reminding us that even actors and actresses can be affected by their emotions at times.
Humour? Might Be The Wrong Time
Humour is most definitely not the appropriate approach when discussing sensitive topics such as the advertising of a film on domestic violence.
Because of Blake’s unfortunate timing trying to act ‘cutesy’, it caused confusion for those who genuinely wanted to engage in a thoughtful conversation with her about the movie’s message.
When your friend opens up to you about something deeply personal and sensitive, it’s important to respond with empathy and understanding. Using humour in such moments can be hurtful and dismissive, potentially causing your friend to feel invalidated or unheard.
Instead, try to be compassionate and offer a listening ear, allowing them to express themselves without fear of judgement.
Blake missed a valuable opportunity to provide hope for individuals in violent relationships by not addressing the main focus of the film in her interviews on domestic abuse.
A very sad missed opportunity for her career and humanity.
