How To Read Like Rory Gilmore

Have An Interest In Exploring Various Genres

Rory enjoys exploring different kinds of literature, which can truly expand your view of things.

Knowledge is boundless, and there are valuable insights to be gained across many genres of literature.

Some individuals may think that only classics count as true reading, but this perspective is not accurate at all!

We have so much to gain by expanding our horizons and connecting beyond our usual limits.

Classics are indeed wonderful, but it’s important to recognise that one day, some of our contemporary books will also be seen as classics.

So, there’s nothing wrong with embracing them now, is there?

Develop A Deep Desire To Learn & Understand More

Books offer us insights into experiences and situations that we may not encounter ourselves, enriching our understanding of life.

We have the opportunity to gain insights from the diverse experiences of individuals, whether they stem from real-life situations or imaginative tales.

Books will guide us throughout challenging moments and impart lessons that we might not have learnt otherwise.

Reading offers us a chance to learn and to gain a deeper understanding of both people and the essence of life itself.

Go to your library or bookshop and look for actual words from real people on honest paper instead of turning to wikipedia or ChatGPT for answers to your questions.

You may discover a book that resonates so deeply with you that it remains on your bookshelf, cherished and valued, even when you reach the age of 80.

Carry A Book With You Wherever You Go

Rory carries a book with her wherever she goes, and it’s wonderful how much reading one can accomplish in just a simple 10-minute bus ride.

I prefer to carry a small poetry book with me since I can read a page in a matter of seconds, allowing me to quickly pull it out and put it back without breaking the flow of a phrase.

Annotate & Take Notes

Rory keeps a journal where she writes down her thoughts and favourite lines.

To truly value the contents of a book, it can be helpful to highlight, underline, or jot down your favourite quotes and lines that resonate with you and provoke thought.

For the purpose of keeping track of words that perplex me and quotes that I find particularly inspiring, I find that the app Bookly is quite useful and fun (I have been using it for years now).

I enjoy reflecting on the books I’ve read, considering my thoughts at the time and the quotes that touched me deeply.

Challenge Yourself With Yearly Reading Goals

Rory embraces challenges wholeheartedly, and participating in yearly challenges can truly inspire you to read more books within a set timeframe.

Setting goals and challenges can gently encourage you to embrace the joy of reading more frequently and consistently.

It’s important to find a balance, as pushing yourself too hard might lead to a reading slump.

I will write an article soon about how to navigate out of this situation, but please know that it’s okay if you’ve found yourself in a reading slump.

We can all relate to this, and it remains a persistent challenge for passionate readers.

Setting a yearly goal allows you to anticipate your next reading adventure while also reflecting on the wonderful books you’ve recently read.

These kinds of challenges are useful as a helpful reminder that you should never forget to be proud of yourself.
