From Too Much to Too Little in new TikTok Trend

Have you ever come across the concept of underconsumption?

It’s all about taking a step back from excessive shopping and collecting and finding contentment with the things we already have.

We’ve stumbled upon a TikTok trend that’s gaining popularity, shifting from excessive consumption to minimalist design. It’s capturing the attention of a growing number of individuals.

Why do we constantly seek extremes, overlooking the simple middle ground? In my humble opinion, embracing the trend of underconsumption can be a healthier choice compared to overconsumption. However, it may also be a bit perplexing for individuals who have always led a modest lifestyle, not feeling the need to purchase unnecessary items just for the sake of owning them.

It’s interesting to note that some well-known celebrities, like Emma Watson, Robert Pattinson, Mark Zuckerberg, Kim Kardashian, and Keira Knightley, have embraced a minimalist lifestyle. Well, their perspective on having less may not exactly match ours, but you catch my drift, right?

Why Underconsumption should remain popular

Wow, there are countless reasons why it’s important to keep the trend of buying less excessive going strong. Now, people can finally reach for their biggest dreams, even if they’ve always felt out of reach.

No more worrying about constantly shopping and running out of money before the month is even over! Despite the rising costs of housing, food, and other stuff, there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon.

This new trend promises to bring our dreams back within reach, reminding us that anything is possible. Alright, so maybe we don’t have the latest iPhone or a closet full of designer shoes.

But guess what? We’ve got something even better – a downpayment for your very own flat! How exciting is that? Ever stopped to think about how much we splurge on things for a fleeting moment of happiness, only to move on and start hunting for the next thrill?

How to maintain the excitement of spending less – in 4 Steps

Track your progress

Keeping tabs on your progress can be incredibly thrilling! So, get this: I’ve been diligently keeping track of my spendings and budget using my own homemade Excel sheet for a while now. But guess what? I recently stumbled upon this super awesome budgeting sheet on Etsy that you can actually buy! How cool is that? The colours of these designs are absolutely fantastic and the overall design is top-notch.

With my limited Excel skills, I could never have made such a useful sheet. It cost a few pounds but made a huge difference! Monitoring my spending and spending reduction has been satisfying. Seeing those columns move closer to my objective of purchasing an apartment or house motivates me so much!

It’s exciting to witness the progress and know that I’m getting closer to achieving my dreams. Oh dear, let me tell you, it’s a total game changer!

Let’s celebrate those milestones!

We may not be able to celebrate our savings milestones in the same way that Kim Kardashian does, but we can acquire the jumper we’ve wanted for three months or take a weekend trip to Rome.

Saving money and spending less is a significant accomplishment that should not be dismissed with a pat on the back once you’ve met your goal. Set a milestone and reward yourself! You have seriously earned it.

Focus on repurposing what you already have

How much we accumulate over time is incredible. We sometimes overlook the jewels in our closets, hiding behind sweaters and trousers. Throwing everything you own in a pile is fun! Follow Marie Kondo’s lead and find the treasures that have been gathering dust for years.

Remember the reasons that inspired you to begin in the first place

We form new behaviours for a cause. Cutting costs has several benefits. For the first time, we can afford what seemed unattainable. Finally, we can buy our dream home or car. Maybe our saving objective changes when we realise what we wanted isn’t so great.

Life will constantly throw new challenges at you, whether it’s becoming a parent or changing jobs. We will constantly have to adapt to new events, and having the financial security to avoid panic at those instances is a true blessing. If the main purpose is to reduce anxiety, isn’t that enough to bring an end to the excessive spending and overconsumption?

THANK YOU SO MUCH AND KEEP UP THOSE POSITIVE VIBES!

Thank you for reading this blog post. This topic holds a special place in my heart because I, too, have a tendency to indulge a bit too much in things I do not need. I am now really satisfied with my budgeting strategy, and the excitement of seeing my money grow is indescribable.

I wish you luck on your quest, and perhaps the mentioned celebs can give you a little extra boost of motivation as well.

Who doesn’t love our sweet Emma and our classy Keira?

  1. I’m a huge fan of the concept of underconsumption. The more stuff you have the more work it takes to manage it all and find a spot for it all. I’d much rather spend my time and money on experiences.

    1. Hello, Lovely! I completely agree with you. Experiences are far more valuable than material stuff! Also, I’m happy you enjoy travelling more than shopping since I truly enjoy your posts and if it would be any other way I wouldn’t have your blog to read lol
